Things to check

When considering the purchase of chimes for a newly acquired van, check if the van already has a full or partial set of chimes. If buying a pre-owned van, a previous owner may have removed the chime box and amplifier, but left the loudspeaker drive head and/or horn, so have a look for these first to avoid unnecessary expenditure. Where to look? There isn’t a standard location to install the loudspeaker, but common places are in the engine bay, inside the passenger door, in the boot with the freezer compressor/s or underneath the van. We’ve even seen them fitted in the cupboard above the driver’s head!

If you find them, great! Now you just need to test the drive head unit is working. It’s simple to test a drive head unit if you have a multi-meter or even using a 9 volt ‘PP3’ battery.
